Rabi Ul Awal is the third sacred month of the Islamic calendar. It has a lot of significance and importance because of important religious events. Besides, also known as “Month Of Muhammad” as it was the birth month of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H). Rabi Ul Awal Month Virtues In Islam

Every religious month in the lunar Islamic calendar is equally important. Rabi Ul Awal is known as a sacred month for its close association with the Holy Prophet (P.B.U. H) birth. There are multiple opinions regarding the exact date of birth of the Holy Prophet.

According to Sunni scholars, Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) was born on 12th Rabi Ul Awal and Muslims celebrate this day as a Holy event. We know this event as Mawlid and Muslims all over the world celebrate Mawlid as the key event of Islam with enthusiasm. According to Shia scholars, the date of birth was 17th Rabi Ul Awal. 

In fact, there were multiple other religious events related to Rabi Ul Awal. All these religious events carry a lot of importance, and as Muslims, we must learn about all important events. It will help us understand more about the sacred month of Rabi Ul Awal.

All Important Religious Events Of Rabi Ul Awal

The following are some important events related to the month of Rabi Ul Awal. All these events are closely associated with the Muslims and make Rabi Ul Awal more valuable and important.

12 Rabi Ul-Awwal: Mawlid or Mawlid al-Nabi

Islam is the religion of peace and harmony. It’s a religion that is based on the Toheed (One God) concept. Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) has a lot of contributions in spreading the message of Allah. Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) was the blessing for every human being in this world and afterworld.

The Holy Prophet(P.B.U.H) was very loving and caring about his Ummah. In fact, the Holy Prophet has just changed our life. Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) has made a large impact on this universe, and that’s why today all the Muslims of the world are closely attached to the Prophet(P.B.U.H)

The words of the Prophet and deeds are most important for Muslims. They try to live their lives according to the guidance of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U. H) known as Hadees and Sunnah of the Prophet(P.B.U.H). 

Importance Of Mawlid or Mawlid al-Nabi

Muslims celebrate the date of the birth of the Holy Prophet. Unquestionably,  Islam does not allow birthday celebrations however Sunni Muslims have a different opinion regarding this day. They believe that Allah has also celebrated this day, and it’s certainly one of the most important days of the universe.

“Verily, in the Messenger of Allah, you have a good example for him who looks to Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah much.” (Quran, 33: 21)

There are multiple hadith and reference which guides us that companion of the Holy Prophet(P.B.U.H) also used to keep fast on 12th Rabi Ul Awal.  Muslims celebrate the day by organizing religious rallies, events, and gatherings. It’s one of the most important religious events for Muslims all over the world.

13 Rabi al-Awwal: Death of Bibi Rubab (Beloved Wife of Imam Hussain)

Bibi Rubab (R.A) was one of the beloved wives of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R. A). In Islam and specially Shia Muslims, Imam Hussain (R. A) is the most important religious personality. He was the maternal grandson of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H). Bibi Rubab (R.A) was one of the companions in the painful journey of Karbala with Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A).

Above all, the mother of  Ali al-Asghar ibn Husayn (also known as ‘Abdullāh) and Ruqayyah. Her father was Imra’ al-Qays ibn ‘Adī bin Aws (Arabic: ٱمْرِئ ٱلْقَيْس ٱبْن عَدِي ٱبْن أَوْس‎). She lived one year in Karbala after the death of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A) and died on 13 Rabi Ul Awal.

17 Rabī‘ al-Awwal Imām Ja‘far al-Sādiq

Imam Jafar Al- Sadiq (R. A) was the most famous Muslim scholar. He was the 6th imam of the Shia community and well known for his religious services. Importantly, also the teacher of famous Sunni scholar Imam Abu Hanifa (R. A) and Imam Malik (R. A).

18 Rabī‘ al-Awwal, the Birth Of Umm Kulthum Bint Ali

Hazrat Ali was the noblest companion of the last messenger (S.A. W). we well knew him for his bravery, justice, and wisdom too. Hazrat Imam Hussain and Hazrat Imam Hassan were the sons of Hazrat Ali.

Umm Kulthum Bint Ali was also the daughter of Hazrat Ali. Moreover, she was also the wife of Hazrat Umer (R.A) according to the Sunni scholars. She was very pious and noble and dear to Hazrat Ali (R.A). She was born on 18th Rabi Ul Awal.

26 Rabī‘ al-Awwal, Death Of Abu Talib Ibn Abdul Muttalib

In the early days of the preaching of Islam, Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U. H) along with his companion faces a lot of difficulties and problems. Few persons support Hazrat Muhammad(P.B.U.H) against Quraish, Abu Talib Abdul Muttalib was one of them who supports the Holy Prophet after the death of the parents and grandfather.

He takes care of Hazrat Muhammad(P.B.U.H) even after Islam and used to praise the Holy Prophet(P.B.U.H) and also facilitates. Hazrat Abu Talib was also the father of Hazrat Ali (R.A). Hazrat Muhammad has a close association with his uncle and also with Hazrat Ali (R.A). 26 Rabi Ul Awal was the death day of Hazrat Abu Talib(R.A).

Other Important Events:

The Hijra (migration)

In the early days of Islam, Quraish start creating a lot of problems for Muslims, and Allah ordered the Muslims to migrate from Makkah to Madina. Certainly, it’s a hard time for the Holy Prophet(S.A.W) and its companion to leave their homes.

Muslims for Islam leave their family, friends, houses, and everything to migrate. This migration starts in the Rabi Ul Awal. Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H)along with its beloved companion Hazrat Abu Bakr(R.A) migrates from Makkah to Madina.

Marriage of Muhammad to Khadijah Bint Khuwaylid

Hazrat Khadijah (R.A) was the first wife of the Holy Prophet. She sends a marriage proposal to Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) after inspiration from the honesty and character of the Holy Prophet. This marriage was important and remains until the life of Hazrat Khadijah (R. A). Most importantly, this marriage also took place in Rabi Ul Awal.

She was the one who firstly encourages Hazrat Muhammad(P.B.U.H) when He received the first revelation from Hazrat Jabrail (A.S). Besides, Hazrat Muhammad also (P.B.U.H) loves Hazrat Khadijah (R.A) and always uses to remember her after death. Of course, she was the true-life companion of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H).
